Those non-decomposable and non–destructible substance created by Leo Baekeland in 19th century is resulting as disastrous as it could be. Leo didn’t knew his invention is going to cause a huge chaos to humanity. About 300 million tons of plastic is being produced each year.
Plastics has dominated on land as well as in seas and ocean causing mass traumas. Under the expedition of professional divers, they found lots of small particles of plastics even in the deep trench.
Yes, there are decomposable plastics which will be better than usual plastics. It decomposes by help of other organisms i.e bacteria and can also decompose in water. But it take too much time which might not be helpful. Apparently, Plastic bags can be recycled and reused. But some of hard plastics can’t.
In most of the cities, Incineration process is performed to get rid of garbages. It instead emits smog and increase the level of Carbon dioxide in air. And By releasing Carbon dioxide ( Green house gas), it even thinners the ozone layer; layer in stratosphere that protect us from UV ray. Results GLOBAL WARMING !!!
Mismanagement and hazardous behavior of human even make it worse. Plastics are used everywhere and in everything. If you look around, you will surely spot plastic made items. Plastics durability is also another trouble for garbage manager. They last longer than other substances and decompose after long time.
Environmental Science and Technology says it’s possible that humans may be consuming anywhere from 39,000 to 52,000 microplastic particles a year. With added estimates of how much microplastic might be inhaled, that number is more than 74,000. If the production and demand of plastic products decreases, it will be partially helpful in the age of Environmental Crisis.
“We make so many things that don’t require the longevity that plastic has – we don’t need a straw that we will use to sip one drink that will stay in the environment forever.”
